A truck driver trying to avoid a deer ended up crashing his rig on I-40 in Cumberland County. It happened just before 6 a.m. Wednesday at the 334 westbound mile marker. According to the THP, 58-year-old Kenneth Whitson of Lindsay, Oklahoma, was driving westbound in a 2012 Peterbuilt when he says a deer entered the roadway. Mr. Whitson swerved to avoid striking the deer, ran off the right side of the road and overturned in the ditch line. Whitson was wearing a seatbelt and was not hurt in the accident. TDOT SmartWay reported it was several hours before crews had cleared the crash site.
