GOP Sen. on LGBT ruling: All Americans entitled to dignity

In reaction to the Supreme Court’s decision that protects LGBT people from employment discrimination, Republican U.S. Sen. Lamar Alexander says every American is “entitled to dignity and respect.” The Tennessee lawmaker told reporters on a call Tuesday that the Supreme Court has spoken on the issue and it’s now the law of the land. The court decided Monday by a 6-3 vote that a key provision of the Civil Rights Act of 1964 that bars job discrimination because of sex, among other reasons, encompasses bias against LGBT workers. President Donald Trump appointee Justice Neil Gorsuch sided with the majority and wrote the opinion.
