Crossville City Council approves resolution to suspend City Manager

Aug 3, 2022 | 10:55 AM

A procedural error in the condemnation of the Village Inn has resulted in the suspension of Crossville City Manager Greg Wood. In a special called session of the Crossville City Council on Tuesday, council members, on the recommendation of the city attorney, voted to suspend Wood for a period up to three weeks with pay. City Attorney Will Ridley felt the action was appropriate after the city closed the facility due to code violations and safety concerns. Ridley noted that the closure was improperly conducted saying the matter should have been processed by the court system. Owner of the building, Dr. Robert “Buck” Wood, speaking to the Council after the vote, told council members that prior to last week he had not been made aware of any violations. Dr. Wood also indicated he hoped to work things out without lawsuits. Council voted earlier in the meeting to hire the Chattanooga law firm of Robinson, Smith and Wells to conduct an impartial investigation into the handling of the matter at a price not to exceed $10,000.
