An East Tennessee native was killed in the Turks and Caicos Islands last weekend in what officials are saying was a “targeted attack”. The Washington Post has identified the man as Kent Carter who was in the area to celebrate his 40th birthday with his girlfriend. On the evening of Sunday, October 2, “armed criminals” in a vehicle began to “indiscriminately shoot” into a car transporting staff from a local business and two tourists. Mr. Carter and one employee of the local business were both killed. News outlets report that Carter, who grew up in Knoxville, had been living in Northern Virginia and was a real estate agent. Police later found the suspected attackers and exchanged gunfire but the suspects got away. An unidentified body was found and is believed to be one of the suspected attackers shot during the exchange.
