Tennessee Secretary of State Tre Hargett, who was arrested in June on a DUI charge, has entered a “best interest” plea, also known as an Alford plea, where the defendant pleads guilty while maintaining factual innocence of the crime. In addition to paying a $350 fine and attending DUI school, Hargett’s driver’s license is restricted for a year. He will be allowed to drive his personal car for state business but it must have a car breathalyzer.
