Officials say a bear entered a locked rental cabin in downtown Gatlinburg late Saturday and attacked a man who was on vacation. The man discovered the animal in the kitchen where he says it charged at him and swatted him, causing serious injuries to his face, head and back. The animal reportedly entered through French doors that had been locked but not dead-bolted. The man was able lock himself in a bedroom and call 911. Emergency crews responded to the scene, but the man refused medical treatment at that time. He was later driven by family members to a hospital where he was treated and released. A trap was set at the scene and a 200-pound female bear was caught and euthanized Sunday afternoon.
