Tennessee State Senator Brian Kelsey pleaded guilty Tuesday to violating federal campaign finance laws during his failed 2016 bid for a seat in the U.S. Congress. The Republican from Germantown is set to be sentenced in the summer of 2023. WTVC reports that Kelsey faces a maximum penalty of five years in prison on each count. One of Kelsey’s alleged co-conspirators, Josh Smith, pleaded guilty in October to aiding and abetting the solicitation, receipt, direction, transfer, and spending of soft money in connection with a federal election.
