A four-time Grammy-winning sound engineer, wanted for Aggravated Assault and Kidnapping charges, was shot dead Thursday in Hermitage by a SWAT officer. Investigators had gone to the home of 54-year-old Mark Capps after Capps’ wife, age 60, and stepdaughter, age 23, told police that Mr. Capps had held them captive at gunpoint and threatened to kill them if they tried to call anyone. Early Thursday morning, the women say Capps fell asleep and that’s when they escaped the home and went to police. A SWAT team responded to Capps’ home Thursday afternoon and according to reports, Capps came to the door with a gun. A command was given for Capps to show his hands and less than a second later a SWAT officer fatally shot Capps. The TBI says no law enforcement officers were hurt in the incident.
According to his discography, Capps worked as a sound engineer for such artists as Vince Gill, Blake Shelton, Alabama and other big names in the music industry.
Capps’ motive remains unclear. WSMV reports that Metro Police confirmed Capps’ brother passed away two days before he allegedly held his family captive.
