The District 7AAA High School Basketball Tournament tipped off Tuesday and the Cumberland County High School Lady Jets played host to the Stone Memorial High School Lady Panthers. The road team enjoyed a 9-point lead in the first half and the Lady Panthers were up 19-17 at the half. The Lady Jets outscored SMHS 16-6 in the third quarter and went on to record a 45-34 win. Cumberland County advances to the tournament semifinals and will play Upperman Saturday at 7:00 at Tennessee Tech. The Lady Jets have also earned a berth in the Region Tournament for a 12th straight season. The Lady Panthers season ends as they post a record of 8 wins and 22 loses.
The Cumberland County High School Jets will play their first game in the District Tournament Thursday as they meet the Bees at Upperman High School. The tip is set for 6:00. The SMHS Panthers, the tourney’s top-seed, will see their first postseason action on Saturday at 4:30 as they play in the semifinals at Stone Memorial.
