Fire Breaks Out At Y-12 Plant in Oak Ridge Wednesday Morning

A fire broke out at Y-12 National Security Complex in Oak Ridge on Wednesday morning.  It happened shortly after 9am in a chemical handling hood in Building 9212. That building is one of the primary chemical processing and enriched uranium production facilities at Y-12.  Around 200 employees were evacuated.  Officials said the incident was contained to the Y-12 Complex and there was no report of injuries, contamination or release of radioactivity.  Just before 1pm ET, officials reported normal activities had resumed in other areas of the Y-12 Complex.
