For the second year in a row a Stone Memorial High School Alum will be playing in the Women’s NCAA Basketball Tournament. This year Emma Capps, daughter of SMHS Boy’s Basketball Coach Neil Capps, will be in the big dance as she plays for her school the Gardner-Webb Bulldogs. Gardner-Webb qualified for the tournament as a 15th seed after winning the Big South Conference Tournament Championship over High Point 74-61.

Emma and her Gardner-Webb teammates will play their Round of 64 Game on Friday as they try to upset the 2nd seeded Utah Utes. Game time starts at 6:30 PM on Friday on ESPNU.

Unfortunately for Tessa Miller, another SMHS Alum, and the Belmont Bruins, who qualified last year, they were upset in the Missouri Valley Conference Championship by Drake 89-71 and will be missing this year’s tournament. However they will be in this year’s Women’s NIT (National Invitation Tournament). They’ll be taking on Ball State on Thursday. Good luck to both former Lady Panthers!
