Tennessee Advances to Round of 32 with a 58-55 Win & Other Teams Across the State Gear up for March Madness

The Tennessee Volunteers are in Orlando Florida for Rounds 1 & 2 of the NCAA Basketball Tournament. The Vols took on the Rajun Cajuns of Louisiana and after a thrilling last five minutes the Vols held on and defeated the Rajun Cajuns 58-55. It was a big second half for Louisiana after cutting Tennessee’s 18 point lead to 3, however it wasn’t enough and the Vols are moving on to the Round of 32.

Tyreke Key was the leading scorer for the Volunteers in scoring with 12 points and Jahmai Mashack scored 11 points. Three other Volunteers had high single digit scoring nights.  For the Cajuns Jordan Brown lead the scoring with 16 points. Kobe Julien had 15 points and Jalen Dalcourt and 11 points for Louisiana.

Tennessee will now take on blue blood Duke in Round 2. The game between the Volunteers and the Blue Devils can be heard on 102.5 WOW Country on Saturday.

For other teams in the state and their hopes and at a March Madness run. 8th seeded Memphis will take on 9th seeded Florida Atlantic tomorrow in the continuation of Round 1 of the Men’s Tournament.

For the Women’s Tournament the Lady Vols will play Saint Louis on Saturday at 12:00 PM with coverage on MIX 99.3. Tennessee Tech and Chattanooga are looking to make history. They are both 16th seeds in the tourney and they are looking to take down their 1st seeded opponents which has never happened in the Women’s tournament before. Tennessee Tech takes on Indiana on Saturday and Chattanooga takes on Virginia Tech on Friday. Middle Tennessee State is looking to continue their successful season as they try to knock off Colorado in the first round on Friday. Finally Crossville’s own Emma Capps and her teammates at Gardner-Webb are looking to take down 2nd seeded Utah tomorrow as well.
