Mar 25, 2023 | 11:41 AM

Strong storms early Saturday morning knocked out power to thousands of Volunteer Energy Cooperative customers.  VEC reported that most of outages were primarily in the valley, caused by fallen trees and lightning. Around 5am there were a little over 7,000 members, spread across 9 counties, without power.  By 8am, VEC had restored electricity to about 1,000 customers with the majority of outages reported in Polk, Hamilton, and Bradley counties. By noon, less than 3,200 customers were without power in counties southeast of Cumberland.
