Mar 26, 2023 | 11:22 AM

The National Weather Service has confirmed that an EF2 tornado touched down in the Fayetteville area on Saturday. The twister packed winds of 118 miles per hour and the touchdown lasted about six minutes.  The tornado caused minor roof and shingle damage to single family homes before tracking due east into the fairgrounds where it uplifted reinforced roofing to horse stalls and destroyed a large outdoor shed. The tornado continued to snap trees and power lines as it headed east where it damaged roofing and siding to several residential and commercial structures.   At the Lincoln Medical Center, the National Weather Service reports power poles were snapped, debris collided with the front of the building, several cars were lifted and had their windows blown out, and an exterior wall was disconnected but did not collapse.  WKRN reports many other areas received damage in Middle Tennessee including Dickson, Giles, Perry and Rutherford Counties.
