Tennessee Governor Bill Lee has signed legislation making Juneteenth a state holiday. Juneteenth celebrates June 19, 1865, the day slaves in Texas learned they had been freed under the terms of the 1862 Emancipation Proclamation. Juneteenth was recognized as a federal holiday in 2021.
