In preparation for Memorial Day weekend and the summer boating season, the Tennessee Wildlife Resources Agency is once again participating in National Safe Boating Week, May 20-26.
So far in 2023, there have been nine fatalities on Tennessee’s waterways, which is one more than at the same time last year. Two of the incidents occurred in back-to-back days on May 12-13. Four of the fatalities have involved paddlecraft.
To help prevent further tragedies, TWRA recommends that all boaters take a safety course and everyone should wear life jackets at all times while on the water. More safety tips can be found on the TWRA website at tn.gov.
