A Knoxville woman is in custody, accused of trying to hire a hitman to kill the wife of a man she met on Match.com. According to federal documents, 47-year-old Melody Sasser became upset with the man when he told her he was engaged to another woman and moving to Alabama. The United States Department of Homeland Security says Sasser went online and hired a hitman for almost $10,000. A Homeland Security agent says a foreign law enforcement agency tipped him off to the murder-for-hire plot in late April. Melody Sasser was arrested in May and is due in federal court in Knoxville on Thursday, June 8, 2023. If convicted, Sasser faces up to 10 years in prison.
