A caregiver in Tullahoma was arrested on murder and child abuse charges Friday (6/16/2023) after officers were dispatched to a home for a report of a 2-year-old child not breathing. The child was taken to the hospital and later pronounced deceased. Police discovered another child in the home with injuries and that child was also taken to the hospital. According to the Tullahoma Police Department, the second child was in stable condition on Saturday.
The caregiver has been identified as 21-year-old Elic Smith, who is charged with one count of First Degree Murder and two counts of Aggravated Child Abuse. The case is being investigating by the Tullahoma Police Department and the Coffee County District Attorney’s Office.
