The punishment for strangling someone during a domestic assault has increased in Tennessee. As of July 1, anyone convicted of domestic assault involving strangulation will be required to serve a mandatory minimum sentence of 30 days incarceration. If the victim loses consciousness, the accused could be charged with attempted first-degree murder or attempted second-degree murder.
