Magnifying Mirror Starts House Fire In Hixson, TN

Officials say a magnifying mirror started a house fire in Hixson, Tennessee on Wednesday.  According to Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue, the mirror focused the sunlight on a flammable folding chair resulting in a rapid fire that spread to the contents of the garage.  A person working in the area noticed smoke coming from the garage, called 911, alerted the residents, then entered the garage to rescue the family’s two dogs that were trapped in crates.  By the time fire fighters and Hamilton County Sheriff’s Deputies arrived, the main body of the fire had been extinguished bystanders with a garden hose.   No one was injured, however, there was heavy damage to the home’s electrical wiring, as well as septic plumbing. Damages are estimated at $20,000. The family is insured and will be staying with family.
