Jul 26, 2023 | 4:30 PM

On Monday (7/24/2023) Crossville Police were dispatched to a residence on Obed Street after a homeowner discovered that a bullet had traveled through her house.  The victim said she heard a loud bang around 8am and called her brother to come investigate.  The brother found a hole coming from the bathroom wall and a busted mirror on a medicine cabinet on the opposite side of the room.  A bullet hole was also found on a kitchen wall.  During the investigation officers learned that the 69-year-old next door neighbor had left his residence just after the shooting.  Police tracked him down to Cookeville where police took a 9mm handgun from him. Upon questioning, the suspect said that morning he went to the bathroom and placed his firearm on the window sill. He accidentally bumped the weapon and it went off.  The man stated he did not call police because he was afraid he would get in trouble.  No one was injured.  Crossville Police seized the man’s gun and the spent bullet and placed them in Evidence.
