A kayaker died in Smith County Saturday after their vessel overturned. According to the Smith County Rescue Squad, when rescue personnel arrived on the scene, the subject was transported back to the Happy Hollow boat ramp to awaiting medical personnel. The individual did not survive. The incident comes just a week after the Smith County Rescue Squad rescued several kayakers at Betty’s Island. As before, the Smith County Rescue Squad pleaded on Facebook for people to wear life jackets at all times while on or near the water.
In Hamilton County, the Dallas Bay Fire & Rescue Water Operations team responded to a distressed kayaker Saturday night on Chickamauga Lake. The kayaker was located and taken back to Chester Frost Park and turned over to the Hamilton County Sheriff’s Office. The victim’s condition was not immediately released.
