A 4-year-old girl was fatally shot Sunday and a Rockwood woman has been charged with murder. WVLT obtained arrest warrants from 9th District Attorney General Russell Johnson that state 25-year-old Breanna G. Devall Runions claimed she was teaching the child about gun safety. According to the warrants, Runions took the magazine out of the weapon, pressed the barrel of the gun to the girl’s chest, then pulled the trigger, killing the girl. Other children in the home reportedly said they had been punished that morning for not following the rules. One child told investigators that Runions had hit them with a sandal. As reported by WVLT, DA Johnson said Runions and the other woman present at the time of the shooting were not the children’s parents and that the Department of Children’s Services had responded to the home in the past. Runions was charged with aggravated child abuse and felony murder.
