Warrants have been sworn out against the man who allegedly caused a 3-vehicle crash on Main Street Thursday morning (10/5/23) while fleeing officers in a stolen vehicle. According to reports, Crossville Police were dispatched to the Flowers Bakery Outlet at 10:52am for a report of a man who had stolen a 1998 GMC Jimmy from the parking lot. Police say the suspect, 40-year-old Jonathan Wayde Russell, was quickly spotted at the National Guard Armory on Highway 70 West. With both City and County officers in pursuit, he reportedly fled at a high rate of speed up Elmore Road and was hit by a truck when Russell ran the red light at the intersection of Highway 127. The stolen GMC rolled over onto the driver’s side and then struck a Volkswagen. Russell was seriously injured and had to be extricated. Russell was flown to a Chattanooga trauma center. A female in the Volkswagen was transported to CMC. The man in the truck was reportedly not injured.
Police took out warrants on Jonathan Wayde Russell for Theft of Property Over $2,500, Felony Evading and Reckless Endangerment. Dispatch sent a hold to Hamilton County for the arrest of Jonathan Russell.
