Cumberland County residents served by the Lantana and Crossville Substations should prepare to be without electricity for at least 8 hours this weekend. Volunteer Energy Cooperative has announced a planned power outage for these areas on Friday, October 27, 2023 beginning at 10 p.m. Central Time and ending Saturday, October 28, at 6:00 a.m. Central Time. The outage will effect over 9,500 members and is expected to last about 8 hours. It is due to VEC moving two transmission lines as part of the TDOT Highway 127 South project. During the outage it is advised to keep freezers and refrigerators closed. Do not use a gas stove or gas oven to heat your home. And have alternate plans for refrigerating medicines or using power-dependent medical devices.
