The Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority will hold a Special Meeting for the Board of Commissioners beginning at 3pm on Monday, November 6, 2023 at Nashville International Airport. The meeting comes after a three-judge panel ruled that the State Legislature cannot take over the Authority.
A bill passed by the Republican-led Legislature went into effect in July that allowed six of the Metropolitan Nashville Airport Authority board members to be appointed by the Governor, Lieutenant Governor and Speaker of the House, thus giving the State control of the Airport Authority. Prior to this law, the mayor of Nashville appointed board members.
With the judges ruling that the new law is unconstitutional, that means the board members appointed by Tennessee lawmakers are out and the old Airport Authority board appointed by Metro is reinstated.
The Attorney General’s Office is “reviewing the decision to determine next steps.”
