It was a big weekend for Big Orange fans as three different sports for the University of Tennessee were in action. Friday saw #9 Tennessee take on Wisconsin in Men’s Basketball and Saturday #13 Tennessee took on #14 Missouri in football and the Tennessee Lady Vols faced #4 Xavier in the first round of the NCAA National Championship in soccer.
Friday night Rick Barnes’ 9th ranked Tennessee Volunteers went on the road to take on the Wisconsin Badgers out of the Big 10. Tennessee controlled the game the whole way and defeated Wisconsin with a final score of 80-70. Dalton Knecht led the way for the Vols with 24 points. Next up, #9 Tennessee takes on Wofford on Tuesday.
There was a still a chance for #13 Tennessee to take a trip to Atlanta for the SEC Championship for football however those chances were dashed as #13 Tennessee fell to #14 Missouri on the road with a final of 36-7. Joe Milton III threw 22/34 for 267 yards with 1 touchdown and 1 interception. Saturday November 18th #13 Tennessee will host the #2 Georgia Bulldogs. The game can be heard on 102.5 WOW Country with coverage starting at 12:30 PM with kickoff at 2:30 PM.
Finally the first round of the NCAA National Championship for soccer was held Saturday as Tennessee took on #4 Xavier. Tennessee fought hard and forced Double Overtime with Xavier. At the 101st minute it was Tennessee’s Graduate Student Sizzy Lawton scoring the game winning goal. Tennessee upsets #4 Xavier 1-0. The Lady Vols advance to the 2nd Round of the Tournament next Friday as Tennessee will take on #5 Nebraska.
