Smoke filled the air once again Tuesday morning along the eastern edge of the Cumberland Plateau. Grandview District 720 Rhea County Fire Department said that the Three Mile Fire had kicked up near Trotter Road & Possum Trot Road. State Forestry, along with the Grandview 720, Pine Grove 715 Fire Department, and Rescue 500 were all on the scene. As of 10:30am Tuesday (11/14/23) the wildfire had grown to 200 acres in size and was 70 percent contained. The blaze was first reported late Thursday night and by early Friday morning (11/10/23) it was 40 acres in size in the area of Jonas Holloway Lane on top of Grandview Mountain. By Sunday night the blaze had tripled in size to 120 acres and was 100 percent contained. However, the winds picked up on Monday and the fire jumped the fire lines as crews continue to work around the clock. By 4pm Tuesday, the wildfire had grown to 250 acres and the state fire map listed it was 100 percent contained and was being fought by 20 personnel.
