Last week’s winter storm has created an abundance of potholes along interstates and state routes. The Tennessee Department of Transportation (TDOT) is launching a statewide effort to repair the damaged areas as quickly as possible.
During the prolonged weather event, TDOT crews worked around the clock for several days clearing state routes, and managed over 1,900 incidents and assisted motorists. TDOT crews logged 105,500 staff hours, used 88,500 tons of salt, applied 1.5 million tons of brine, and drove more than 884,000 miles.
Multiple crews will be patching potholes over the coming days and weeks. Cold mix asphalt is currently being used for repairs. More permanent repairs will be made in spring and early summer when asphalt plants are producing hot mix.
Remember, when you see TDOT, construction or emergency personnel on or near the roadway, please move over and slow down.
