A federal judge has granted a preliminary injunction that will prevent the NCAA from enforcing its NIL regulations, for now.
In January, Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti, along with Virginia, sued the National Collegiate Athletic Association (NCAA) for violating federal antitrust laws they claim restrict the ability of current and future student-athletes to benefit from their name, image, and likeness (NIL).
The NIL-recruitment ban will remain in place until the next court order.
On Friday (2/23/24), Tennessee Attorney General Jonathan Skrmetti said in a statement. “We will litigate this case to the fullest extent necessary to ensure the NCAA’s monopoly cannot continue to harm Tennessee student-athletes. The NCAA is not above the law, and the law is on our side.”
