Update 2/26/24 2:54pm – The Cumberland County Sheriff’s Office has released an update that says the driver was not killed, but the passenger was. According to the updated CCSO press release, the driver of the fleeing vehicle was identified as Charles Hughett, 74 years old. Charles Hughett was airlifted to a local trauma hospital for treatment. Brandon Hughett 47, the son of Charles Hughett, was the passenger in the vehicle and was ejected after the vehicle crashed and he died at the scene. Both individuals have multiple warrants outstanding in Cumberland and Morgan counties and a lengthy criminal history involving multiple felony convictions. There is no information on the medical condition of Charles Hughett at this time. Charges are pending at this time.

February 25, 2024 – Crossville, Tennessee- At approximately 6:08 PM Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputies initiated a pursuit of a vehicle around the Mt. Roosevelt Road area in Cumberland County that ended with the fleeing vehicle crashing in Morgan County.
Tennessee Highway Patrol Critical Incident Response Team responded to the scene to investigate. Morgan County EMS and Morgan County Rescue Squad also responded to assist at the scene. Early reports confirm the driver of the fleeing vehicle died at the scene with the passenger being airlifted to a local trauma hospital.
This investigation is ongoing and names are being withheld at this time. Additional releases will be made upon completion of the investigation.
