Voters in the Cumberland Primary ousted incumbent Assessor of Property, Sandy Gilbert in Tuesday’s Republican Primary. Kelli Tipton Buchannon picked up 5861 votes to Gilbert’s 4220. Gilbert was appointed to the position in 2021 following the passing of Lori Powell, and was elected to fill the remainder of Powell’s term in 2022. In other contested races, Scott VanWinkle defeated Chris Goddard in the 2nd district Cumberland County Board of Education race, while Teresa Boston lost to newcomer Travis Cole in the 8th District School Board Race.
