The Crossville Shooting Park has requested additional acreage adjacent to the existing park and bordering I-40. Members of the shooting park board and the general manager, Barry Kelley appeared before the Crossville City Council during their March work session to answer questions regarding the request. Kelley said the additional property would only be used for archery and up to 4 special events a year. Residents of the area, however, spoke prior to the meeting to express their concerns of noise, with one resident bringing a recording from a half mile away of constant gunfire. According to the resident, the event was recorded at night. Manager Kelley told council the park closes at 5 in the winter and 6 in the summer and was certain the gunfire was not coming from park property. He did note that law enforcement sometimes uses the facility for training, and at times may do exercises at night. Council made no indication on what action they plan to take on the matter, but it will be on next week’s regular meeting agenda for a possible vote.Council will meet at 6 PM Tuesday, March 12 in Crossville City Hall.
