A husband and wife were brutally murdered Easter weekend in Loudon County and a suspect is in custody.

Police were called to a home in the Greenback Community on Sunday after the body of 78-year-old James Ramsey was discovered in his backyard by his sister who lives nearby. Police found the body of Mr. Ramesy’s wife, 75-year-old Betty Ramsey, in their home.  It’s believed the couple was stabbed to death sometime Saturday afternoon.

Police say the suspect is 53-year-old Julian P. Goodrum, who was reportedly a close friend of the Ramsey family.

Goodrum has been charged with two counts of first-degree murder.
