The National Weather Service has confirmed that a tornado touched down Tuesday afternoon near Sunbright in Morgan County. The warning was issued around 5:27pm Eastern Time.
Morgan County E-911 reported a large number of downed trees, downed power lines and a lot of debris on the roads. First responders searched about a 5 to 10 square mile radius and found no injuries and everyone was accounted for. Schubert Funeral Home in Sunbright and a gas station were heavily damaged. About 5 homes were also damaged and the twister knocked out power to some 2,000 customers including the entire town of Sunbright. Highway 27 through Sunbright was shut down with traffic rerouted and officials asked everyone to stay out of the area while emergency crews worked to assess the situation. An emergency shelter was set up at Central High School in Morgan County and about two people were expected to shelter there overnight.
WVLT reported the twister left a trail of damage in Morgan, Scott and Campbell counties.
