The FAA has confirmed that at least one person was killed in a plane crash Friday afternoon in Anderson County. The  single-engine Piper PA-32 went down in the Claxton area. According to FlightAware.com the plane had taken off from McGhee Tyson Airport and was bound for Gerald R. Ford International Airport in Grand Rapids, Michigan.  Initially it was reported that two people were on board but the FAA now reports only the pilot as deceased.  Officials spent the weekend combing the area for plane parts and luggage that had fallen in homeowner’s yards near the crash site.
