With the assistance of K9 Vallen, Crossville Police found a pistol in the wood line near the Rec Park early Wednesday (4/17/24) morning. Lieutenant Dustin Lester responded shortly after midnight to the area of the horseshoe pits for a call of possible homeless subjects. No contact was made with any subjects. Sergeant Crystal Massey took her K9 partner Vallen for a walk and the police dog pulled Sergeant Massey through the gate that separates the Park from Goodwin Circle and to the wood line where he showed intense interest in the high grass and brush area. Sergeant Massey noticed a black nylon type fabric bag and Lieutenant Lester recovered a black shoulder holster with two magazine pouches, and a red and black High Point 9mm pistol. The pistol was checked through NCIC and came back not stolen. The pistol was taken to the Police Department and placed into evidence along with twenty-six 9mm bullets. There were no charges at the time of the report.
