A truck driver has been issued a citation in Thursday’s early morning crash on I-40 in Cumberland County.  It happened around 4am at the 334 westbound mile marker, between Westel and Crab Orchard.  According to the THP, 43-year-old Joseph D. Maynard was traveling westbound when the vehicle left the roadway to the left, impacting the cable barrier. The driver corrected back onto the roadway and lost his connection with the trailer he was hauling. The container held Aluminum Dross, a hazardous waste that is the byproduct of aluminum refinement. The Aluminum Dross was dumped onto the roadway and into the median when it tipped over, coming to final rest in the left lane. The vehicle’s cab continued across the roadway before tipping on its driver’s side, finally resting on the right shoulder. Maynard was not injured.  He was cited for Failure to Maintain Lane.  The crash shut down the westbound lanes of I-40 near the 334 mile marker for much of the day.  THP told Peg Broadcasting that traffic had resumed by 3 o’clock that afternoon.
