AAA: TN Gas Prices Fall Seven Cents Ahead of Memorial Day

May 20, 2024 | 5:01 PM

Pump prices across the state continue to decline ahead of Memorial Day weekend. That’s great news for the over 783,000 Tennesseans who are forecast to take a road trip for the unofficial start of summer.  The state gas price average fell seven cents over last week. The Tennessee Gas Price average is now $3.16 which is eight cents less expensive than one month ago but four cents more than one year ago.

The national average for a gallon of gasoline kept up its slow descent, falling two cents since last week to $3.59.

AAA projects nearly 38.4 million Americans will travel by car over Memorial Day weekend, the highest number for the holiday since AAA began tracking in 2000.

The most congested periods on the road are forecast to be Thursday and Friday afternoons from 3pm-7pm. The best advice for avoiding congestion is to travel before noon or after 7pm.

AAA expects 3.51 million Americans to travel by air this holiday weekend, an increase of 4.8% over last year. This will be the most crowded Memorial Day weekend at airports since 2005.
