Knox County Student Injured in Hit and Run at Bus Stop Thursday Morning

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office Traffic Unit (TANGO) responded to an E-911 call Thursday morning (8/8/24) at approximately 7:30 am where a juvenile female had been the victim of a hit and run while waiting at the bus stop.  The bus stop is located at the intersection of Thornton and Hughlan Drive.  A passerby noticed the female lying on the ground at about the same time the school bus arrived.  The victim was taken to The University of Tennessee Medical Center, where she remains.  The Sheriff’s Office did not immediately disclose the extent of her injuries.

The Knox County Sheriff’s Office is asking anyone who lives in the area to check their cameras to see if they have captured any pertinent footage.  Anyone wishing to provide information can remain anonymous.  The number to call with information is 865-215-2243.

The first full day of school in Cumberland County is this Friday (8/9/24) and authorities are reminding everyone to drive with extreme caution in school zones, bus stops and be on the alert for children walking to and from school.
