White County Sheriff Steve Page has given an update on Tuesday’s “potential bomb threat” that prompted a soft lockout of schools and led to the early dismissal of White County Middle School.
According to the Sheriff’s press release, it was reported Tuesday morning (8/20/2024) that a middle school student had made threats and had a device believed at the time to be an explosive device. Sheriff Page and the White County Sheriff’s Office Deputies responded immediately and locked down the school and started the search. After speaking to the student and checking the device, which was located at his residence, it was discovered it was not an explosive device. The school was checked, no other things were discovered, and the school was completely cleared and safe.
Sheriff Page wants to thank Putnam County Sheriff’s Office and THP for their assistance in making sure the school was cleared safely. Sheriff Page also thanks the White County Middle School Staff for being proactive in assuring that all students were taken care of safely.
