It is a new college football season on Rocky Top and the Tennessee Volunteers kicked it off against in state foe the Chattanooga Mocs. The Vols came into the season opener ranked 15th in the country and with a new quarterback at the helm with Nico Iamaleava. The new QB only saw two quarters of play and that’s all he needed. Tennessee sent the Mocs back to Chattanooga with a 69-3 loss.
Nico Iamaleava was the stand out in the season opener throwing for 314 yards with 3 touchdowns. Tennessee’s starting running back Dylan Sampson also had 3 touchdowns, he also rushed for 124 yards. The Vols top receiver Saturday was the transfer from Oregon Dont’e Thornton who had 3 receptions for 105 yards and 2 touchdowns.
#15 Tennessee starts the season 1-0 and will be on the road to a neutral site game next Saturday. UT travels to Charlotte to take on North Carolina State in the Duke’s Mayo Classic with kick off set for 6:30 PM.
