Sunday was a delightful afternoon for Tennessee athletics fans as the Vols football team jumps in the AP Poll and the Lady Vols Soccer team claims another win and extends their unbeaten streak.
First the weekly AP Poll was released Sunday and the high flying Tennessee Volunteers jumped up seven spots to the 7th ranking. The Vols join their Southeastern Conference counterparts in the Poll with: #1 Georgia, #2 Texas, #4 Alabama, #5 Ole Miss, #6 Missouri, #15 Oklahoma, and #18 LSU. The #7 Tennessee Volunteers will play Saturday Sept. 14th against Kent State coverage can be heard on 102.5 WOW Country.
Also the Tennessee soccer team has extended their unbeaten streak to five games Sunday after defeating Florida Atlantic 2-0 at Regal Stadium in Knoxville. Mac Midgley got the Lady Vols started with her first goal of the season scored in the 18th minute. Sammi Woods put the game away in the 63rd minute when she knocked in a rebound off the right post. Woods now leads the team in goals scored this young season. Lady Vol veteran Jaida Thomas led the team in shots taken with four total. Finally, Ally Zazzara gets credited with another clean sheet saving two shots from the Owls. The Lady Vols are now 4-1-1 on the season and welcome another Top-10 match up to Knoxville. Thursday, September 12th Tennessee hosts in-state rival #7 Memphis for a showdown at Regal Stadium at 6:00 PM.
