Vehicle Stolen During Rockwood High School Football Game Involved in High Speed Pursuit, Wrecked in Morgan County, 2 Injured

Two people were injured Friday night (9/6/2024) after they reportedly crashed a truck in Morgan County that was stolen during a football game in Rockwood.

According to reports, around 8pm a Cumberland County Sheriff’s Deputy spotted a red Chevrolet Silverado with a non-working tag light.  The vehicle got on I-40 East and failed to maintain lane several times by crossing over the center line. The vehicle took exit 340 on Airport Road and turned left towards Morgan County. The Deputy tried to conduct a traffic stop and the vehicle increased its speed, ranging from 65 mph to 90 MPH. The Silverado wrecked near Powers Road in Morgan County.

Deputies got passenger 31-year-old Tiffany Herbert out of the wrecked truck and placed her in handcuffs.  She was later transported to Roane Medical.

The driver, 33-year-old Derek Cook, was loaded in an ambulance and transported to University of Tennessee Medical Center. A record checked showed Derek Cook’s license to be Revoked.

The truck was later determined to be stolen during a football game at Rockwood High School.

Warrants were signed on Derek Cook.  Charges listed in the report include Evading Arrest, Driving on Revoked/Suspended License; Reckless Endangerment-Vehicle/Felony and Theft.
