A Georgia man faces a slew of charges after his truck collided with another vehicle at the intersection of Elmore Road and West Avenue. It happened Friday (September 20, 2024) shortly before 9am.
According to the Crossville Police Department, a red 2007 Ford F-150 driven by 64-year-old Joel Thomas McFarland ran the red light at a high rate of speed and struck the passenger side of a blue van that was turning left onto Elmore Road. The occupants of the van reportedly suffered minor injuries.
Police say Mr. McFarland refused medical treatment. Following a Standardized Field Sobriety Test along with what was observed on his person and in the truck, McFarland was charged with Driving Under the Influence, Possession of a Handgun While Intoxicated, and Introduction of Contraband into a Penal Institution. McFarland was also charged with Possession of a Schedule 6 drug, Violation of an Order of Protection, Failure to Exercise Due Care and Running the Red Light citation summons.
McFarland’s 9mm Smith & Weston pistol, hoster, three 9mm magazines, twenty-eight 9mm bullets and a pill bottle containing a substance believed to marijuana were placed into evidence along with two vials of whole blood.
