#8 Tennessee Survives Rival Florida in Overtime

By Paxton Elmore Oct 13, 2024 | 10:18 AM

It took overtime to separate two rivals in Tennessee and Florida Saturday night. #8 Tennessee who trailed for most of the game came to life in the second half scoring 17 unanswered 17-10 lead. In the final seconds of regulation the Gators forced Overtime with a touchdown marking the first time since 1998 Tennessee & Florida would decide their game in overtime. In a similar fashion Florida would miss their field goal attempt giving UT a chance to win and with a 2-yard run from Dylan Sampson the Vols defeated Florida 23-17. This is just the 3rd time in 20 years that Tennessee has defeated the Gators from Gainesville.

Nico Iamaleava threw for 169 yards with 1 interception. Mike White was the leading UT receiver with 5 receptions with 71 yards. The game was carried on the back on Dylan Sampson who ran for 112 yards and scored all 3 of UT’s touchdowns.

#8 Tennessee improves to 5-1 on the season and 2-1 in SEC play. This week it’s another rivalry game. It’s time for the “Third Saturday in October”. #8 Tennessee will play host to #7 Alabama on Rocky Top. Kickoff is set for 2:30 PM, you can hear coverage of the Third Saturday in October on 102.5 WOW Country.
