The Tennessee Volunteers men’s basketball team, who currently hold the honor of being the #1 ranked team in the country, opened up Southeastern Conference play on Saturday hosting the 23rd ranked Arkansas Razorbacks. The Razorbacks are led by first year head Coach John Calipari who is used to being the away team coach in Knoxville. Coach Calipari wasn’t the only one making a return to Rocky Top as former Vol Jonas Aidoo started for Arkansas on his first trip back to UT.
Aidoo and Calipari were both disappointed as the Volunteers would cruise to a 76-52 win. Four different Vols scored in double digits with Chaz Lanier leading the way scoring 29 points. Igor Milicic Jr. was second in scoring with 13 points, while Zakai Zeigler scored 12 and Felix Okpara rounded out the top scorers with 10. D.J. Wagner had the most points for Arkansas with 17 points and former Vol Jonas Aidoo scored 4 points.
#1 Tennessee improves to 14-0 which is the best start for the men’s basketball team since the 1922-23 season. The Vols hope to keep their undefeated streak alive as they host a ranked match up against rivals the Florida Gators. The Vols and Gators tip off Tuesday night at 6:00 PM.
