Storms Kill Two in Morgan County, Significant Storm Damage in Deer Lodge and Highway 27, Sunbright Area

At least two people were killed and three others injured as powerful storms moved through Morgan County Thursday night (2/6/25).

The Morgan County Emergency Management Agency and Sheriff Wayne Potter initially reported that a possible tornado caused significant damage and injury in the Deer Lodge area and Highway 27, Sunbright area.  Authorities said Friday morning that a mother and daughter from the same household were killed in the storm.

According to WVLT  a representative for the Sheriff’s Office reported several houses were damaged or destroyed.

The Tennessee Highway Patrol deployed a strike team of nearly 30 Troopers to Morgan County to assist in searching for victims and surveying damage.  The Oak Ridge City Fire Department also sent resources to Morgan County.

The public is asked to avoid travel to the Deer Lodge area and Highway 27, Sunbright area until further notice.

Sheriff Potter posted to his Facebook page that the Wartburg Central High School is the designated safe shelter location for the displaced or those in need and a staging for any further responding agencies.
