A Crossville resident reported a recurring phone bill scam to police this week after receiving suspicious mail. A resident of East Ridge Drive contacted authorities on April 24 after receiving a past-due bill and a new statement from Verizon for almost $3,600. The victim told officers she uses a prepaid Verizon phone and is not on a contract plan. Verizon confirmed the bill was fraudulent and advised her to file a police report. This is the second time she has reported the scam, with a similar incident documented in January. She has not sent any money. Authorities are continuing to investigate the source of the fraudulent billing.
