A Crossville woman has been scammed out of hundreds of dollars after joining the “Reba McEntire Fans Group” on Facebook. After joining, the woman said she was contacted via Facebook Messenger by someone claiming to be Reba McEntire who said she was sending her $100,000. It would be delivered through a third party. A man later contacted the woman via WhatsApp and said he needed $200 to assist with crossing a border in order to deliver the money and gold. The woman purchased Apple gift cards in that amount and gave the information to the man. Shortly afterward, the same man contacted her again, requesting an additional $500, which she also provided using Apple gift cards.
On Tuesday (June 3, 2025), the man contacted the victim again, stating he had been apprehended by the FBI and unless she sent $1,000 immediately, federal agents would be coming after her as well.
At this point, the victim became alarmed and contacted the Sheriff’s Office.
The victim was informed that she had been scammed and to stop sending money and block all communication. She was further advised to talk with a trusted friend or family member before providing any money or personal information in the future.
